Your big day should be as unique as you are, but it’s always fun to draw inspiration from some of the hottest emerging wedding trends.

INVITATIONS

The invitation sets the tone for the event and is often carried through into other details of the day. Sheryl Cogan, owner of the Paper Studio, has been in the business long enough to advise about important things like etiquette, wording and timelines, and offers up some invite trends.

In bloom

Colour is back with romantic, oversized flowers. Combine this trend with watercolour, and your invitations will be totally Instagrammable.

Glitzy gold

Gold foil writing is dramatic and sophisticated. The rose gold foil trend has taken the lead, but not too far behind is traditional gold, silver and copper foil.

Beautifully sealed

Matching envelopes and liners complete the package. Envelopes are lined with the same theme as the invitation, and you can even add
beautiful touches like laser-cut paper.

MENU

Weddings are a chance to treat your guests to a culinary experience. “Our brides are leaning towards action food stations as opposed to a sit-down dinner,” says Stacey Price of the Design Wedding Co.

Food presents

These small portions are served in individual containers with powerful bursts of flavour. Cliff Lyness, Executive Chef at Brookstreet Hotel, says food presents are not only a feast for your guests’ taste buds, they also look beautiful.

Cater-taining

Food stations that have an entertainment factor are on the rise.  Guests can now expect food stations like salmon torching and make-your-own float bars.

DRESS

Arguably the bride’s biggest decision for the wedding day; we can all agree all eyes will be on the dress – I mean the bride.  Luckily, bridal fashion has a trend for every type of bride. Rebecca DuPlante from White Satin Bridal Boutique says brides should aim to “stay true to themselves when selecting a gown – just a more glamorous version of themselves.”

Not your average sleeve

What started with Kate Middleton’s wedding dress has turned into a love affair with sleeves. Sleeves can be now be found in all styles and fabrics – from romantic lace to trendy flared.

Make an exit

Make an entrance, and
an exit! Backless and sheer-back dresses have such a sexy, yet timeless elegance to them. Some designers are adding a gorgeous train to backless dresses, giving them an even more dramatic impact.

RING

The engagement ring will last you a lifetime, so it’s important that it reflects who you are. While classics like the single solitaire will always be in style, today’s trends are stunning enough to grace your left hand forever.

Show me colour

The pink gold trend is holding its own in the wedding jewellery world.  Flattering on many skin tones, brides are now choosing pink gold for either the engagement ring or wedding band, or both!

Others are choosing colour in the actual stone. “Pink diamonds are getting more interest now – this is a fantastic way to be unique,” states Stephanie Appotive, Howard’s Fine Jewelers.

In shape

The pear-shaped diamond either set on its own or in a halo has a very feminine appeal and is a rising trend.
