It was a night to honour the best in the kitchen and bath industry in Ottawa with the NKBA awards held at Brookstreet Hotel on April 5. Guests were treated to an elegant meal, glass trophies and dancing to nostalgic music.
One designer stood out above the rest, Friedemann Weinhardt, of Design First Interiors, who took home the majority of the awards. At one point he commented to Ottawa At Home editor-in-chief Mary Taggart, the evening's MC, that it was getting a little embarrassing to be called up on stage over and over again, but humbly pointed out to the crowd that he was part of a team.
Another standout component to the evening was Algonquin College's kitchen and bath design program. A few students won awards as well as program coordinator Sandra Gibbons who took home the first annual Doris Lacroix Award for her dedicated efforts within the industry.
Judges were looking for creative use of space while following the traditions of a well-designed kitchen.
