In a magical atmosphere that combines the generosity of homeowners, florists, designers and mother nature’s bounty the annual Homes for the Holidays tour, in support of Hospice Care Ottawa, took place during Ottawa’s first major snowfall of the season.

The snowfall created a festive spirit throughout the weekend long tour that brought approximately 1,600 guests through eight beautifully decorated homes that included a holiday pop-up shop at the home of the Irish Ambassador to Canada.

The tour is a major fundraiser for Hospice Care Ottawa which receives only partial funding from the government. The hospice provides end-of-life care to people with life limiting illness while also offering support to their families. This year over $142,000 was raised.

Local designers and florists created stunning displays throughout each home showing off trends in holiday décor. Traditional Christmas decorating was on display to prove that the colour red and roses rules for holiday decorating. But one of the holiday’s most significant symbols, the Christmas tree, was showcased in a range of ways. Creativity took over with trees in an assortment of shapes and sizes.

Home owners opening their homes to an onslaught of visitors were left with a feeling of deep satisfaction knowing their generosity was for a good cause. One homeowner captured this feeling best when they said they were, “honoured to have been asked to be a part of this important event in support of hospice.”
