WHO:

Crawford Alexander Designer Boutique

WHERE:

1089 Somerset Street West, Ottawa (just after Preston and before Wellington Street West). 613 722-0839.

STYLE:

Modern, urban, with an Art Deco vibe and a touch of vintage.

WHAT:

The store sparkles with glass and silver lamps, mirrors and plenty of tempting accessories at every price point. Colour themes are neutral with beige, black, white and deep chocolate brown anchoring the palette.

BEST BUYS:

The Sullivan Sectional from Rowe Furniture. "We can't keep it in stock," says co-owner Jamie LeBlanc.

THE GOODS:

There's a smart design studio at the back for consultations with any of the three in-house designers. The Crawford Alexander price offers savings on most regular retail prices and customers get a better deal due to the link with the design business. "We try to be very fair in retail - by simply offering the best price we can, and if customers ask us to match a better price we say Ďno,' " says LeBlanc. "For every item in the store, we try to have something similar at a different price. So we might stock a $300 crystal decanter and another that sells for $22." The store is the only agent in Eastern Ontario for Rowe Furniture from the U.S.A. It offers a wide range of sofas and chairs in a multitude of fabrics, with a quick delivery. In the spring they will be launching a new, Canadian-made line called "My First Place," featuring sofas and dining rooms sets at $999.

OWNERS:

Luc Crawford, 33, and Jamie LeBlanc, 32, have been in the business for over 10 years. LeBlanc came to Ottawa from New Brunswick to open a retail store for a client, while Crawford, originally from Ottawa, moved back from Toronto to expand his thriving Crawford Lifestyles business. The pair opened Designs By 2 in 2006 and this retail location last October. They have a monthly design show on Rogers Daytime TV and ?will soon be sharing their knowledge on ?A-Channel's morning show, "Design Line". Written by Hattie Klotz
