Erin Clatney of DISH Catering sure knows how to throw a party.  On April 7, she conspired with twelve of Ontario's finest wineries to present Somewhereness. It was a tribute to terroir and a stunning showcase of food and drink that also helped to serve as the unofficial launch of Orange Art Gallery's beautiful new home in Hintonburg.

It was an evening full of surprises. The sold-out crowd delighted in lengthy conversations with the representatives of the wineries, each of whom was glad to pour samples and discuss wine and food pairings. DISH had a busy team of chefs on hand who delivered tasty morsels that delighted at every turn as guests progressed from room to room in Orange's historic, repurposed space. With its high ceilings and gorgeous plank flooring, the gallery is sure to be a favoured venue for many gatherings in the future. Throughout the evening, DJ Lance Baptiste spun tunes in the gallery's largest space, lending a hip, cool vibe to the event.

An oyster bar accompanied by two beautiful bubblies gave way to an Easter egg hunt (deviled eggs, of course). Next up were a series of Pinot Noirs, Gamays, Chardonnays and more, along with delicious bites such as deep fried spheres of lamb tourtiere filling accompanied by a lovely spring pea soup and duck confit with mango slaw. Meltingly tender beef cheeks wrapped in phyllo and garnished with a tomatillo sauce provided another taste sensation, as did popcorn crusted shrimp. One of the things Erin and her team accomplished so expertly was creating dishes that were inventive and flavourful, without overpowering the accompanying wines.

While the food and wine were certainly the stars of the evening, they were almost upstaged by a surprise acoustic concert by the incredible Canadian chanteuse Kathleen Edwards. She dazzled everyone with her talent and generous spirit, infusing the evening and the intimate space with her warmth and passion.
